[Important Note:] Most of this spray program for home orcahrds is done only when you have a history of damage. The applications most needed by gardeners every year, will be listed as needed every year. In addition, application for brown rot is important during wet years. Check you label for recommendations on rates and waiting periods before harvest. Lastly, these are recommendations for the Central Valley area of California. Certain products may not be registered for the recommended use in your area of the country. Always check with your local nursery or county agricultural office before begining a spray program.
When Dormant
- Peach, Nectarine, Plum, Apricot & Almond: For Shot Hole & Peach Leaf Curl use MicroCop and StaStuk soon after leaves fall, or at least by early December. A second and thrid application for Peach Leaf Curl is necessary in late December and just before the flower buds open in Spring. [Yearly Application Recommened]
- Apple, Pear, Apricot, Peach, Plum, Nectarine, Almond: For insect eggs, Scale, and Twig Borer control use Volck Oil or Master Nursery Year-Around Oil.
Pink Bud Stage
- Apple: For Mildew use Funginex or Wettable Sulphur.
- Apricot, Peach & Nectarine: For Brown Rot use Daconil, or Wettable Sulphur on Peach & Nectarine (Do NOT use Sulphur on Apricots, or within 30 days of any oil spray.) [Recommended Application During Wet Years]
- Peach, Nectarine, Plum, Apricot & Almond: use MicroCop or Daconil for a second application to control Shot Hole Disease.
Popcorn Stage
- Plum & Prune: For brown Rot use Daconil or Wettable Sulphur [Recommended Application During Wet Years]
- Almond: For Shot Hole Fungus and Brown Rot use MicroCop and Sta-Stuk

Full Bloom
- Apple & Pear: For Fireblight use MicroCop alone. Repeat at five day intervals from first bloom until the end of bloom. [Yearly Application Recommened]
90 % Petal Fall
- Peach, Nectarine, Plum, Prune & Almond: For Twig Borer use Sevin. Spary a second application about mid to late May, and again when fruit begins to ripen. Do NOT apply Sevin within seven days of Harvest
When Petals Have Fallen
- Apple & Pear: For Coddling Moth larvae use Sevin. A secon application in 25 days will be needed, a third in late June, and a fourth in August. [Yearly Application Recommened]
When Growth Starts
- Peach & Nectarine: For Peach Leaf Curl on small trees prune off affected foliage. In larger trees we recommend recommend fertilizing only to enable the tree to replace the affected foliage.
When Fruit Begins to Color
- Peach, Nectarine Plum, Prune: For Brown Rot use Wettable Sulphur. For Apricots use only Daconil. [Recommended Application for Brown Rot During Wet Years]
Walnuts
- For Early-Blooming varieties: For Coddling Moth larvae use Sevin when average size of nut is 3/8 to 1/2 inch. A second application in late June may be needed. [Yearly Application Recommened]
- For Late-Blooming varieties: For Coddling Moth larvae use Sevin in late June.[Yearly Application Recommened]
Grapes
- Use Dusting Sulphur or Wettable Sulphur for Pwdery Mildew when shoots are 6, 12, and 18 inches, and every two weeks after, until harvest. Don't use sulphur powder when the weather is over 100° F. the first three applications are the most important. [Yearly Application Recommened]
- Aphid, Mites, and Caterpillars will need treatment as the damage shows.
