Every Fall about this time we go down to the growing fields in Wasco and bring back samples of the new introductions for our staff and customers to view.

This is your oportunity to see the actual flowers of the new AARS winners. These are varieties that have gone through a 2 year period of evaluation by rose expertsd in rose gardens across the US.

Our show will be Saturday and Sunday September 18 and 19 all day.

This year the AARS winners include Elle a shell pink and Ivory bicolor.. This has a strong spice fragrance. Elle came from the Meiland Rose Company in France.

About Face is a grandiflora golden orange inside with a bronzy red outside. As the best grandifloras are this is bushy growing and very free flowering. About Face is fron Weeks Roses and Tom Carruth. Tom and I have known each other since he first started working for Weeks about 20 years.

Two shrub roses for the landscape won AARS awards. first is Lady Elsie May a coral colored semi double It is a medium sized mounding plant that is distinctly disease resistant.
The second shrub rose is DayDream. Thbis has large clusters of semi-double lavender pink blooms aon arching canes. This is a wonderful flowering space filler where you have room.

Other new roses we expect to have available to see include Volupuous the J & P Rose of the year. Inb addition we will have a number of other new and established varieties to see.

We also will have our Demo roses available to see. Every year our suppliers give us some samples of the new roses they are introducing so we and you have a chance to ess them

At the Rose exhibition we will have our pre-season order form so you can pre-order roses and get the cream of the3 crop. when pre-pain you receive a 10% discount.

We have recently received several samples of field dodder. Field Dodder is an unusual parasitic pest. It germinates from seed each year and looks for a host plant. If it finds one it attaches uitself to the vascular system of the host and uses the nutrients of the host to grow.

The best control is to remove any plants infested as soon as they are seen. Treflan is a pre-emergent that can help with dodder control. It takes 5 or more years for it to quit appearing if you keep it from reseeding.

By far the most popular flower from seed is Sweet peas. They have been popular for a couple of hundred years. The delightful flowers, the fragrance, the ability to be brought indoors are all things that have endeared them to generations of gardeners.

For many years the varieties available have dwindled to just the basic colors and mixed in climbing and buhs type. If you come in now we have two suppliers that have a wonderful selection of unusual new varieties and a number of heirloom varieties. By planting this fall you get the maximum amount of flowers this spring. we are carrying a complete selection of sweet peas from Renee's Gardens and Orwin Seeds
